Learners

Working with learners is central to the work of the organisation- and learners are involved at a number of levels in the planning and development of our work.

Participating in advisory groups, campaigning groups and the learners’ forum, many of the learners we work with want to give something back to the organisations who have helped them on their learning journey.  So if you want to find out more about how you can be involved call us on 0131 220 5567 .

Learners’ Forums

Across Scotland, local learners’ forums have been established in a few of the local authority geographies and Scotland’s Learning Partnership facilitates the National Learners’ Forum which brings together members from each of these local forums and other learning organisations who have learners associations.

Membership of the learners’ forum is open to all learners and the people who take up these opportunities reflect the wide range of groups we are trying to reach.

We have adopted an open door approach to the participation of learners in the forum with a national coordinating group identifying the key areas of activity for events, communications and of course the local campaigns.  The learners’ forum works across three sub groups to help deliver on its agreed objectives.

The sub groups are:

Campaigns Sub Group – Identifying what worked for learners and what motivates them to take part in a local learning campaign.

Communications Sub Group – Creating newsletters, fliers and web chats to keep people up to date with what’s happening.

National Events Sub Group – Leading on the development of the learners’ events and conference programme throughout the year.

Learners Voices

One of our key objectives is to try and give learners the opportunity to have their say in local national and international policy-making. Much of our work in this area is recognised as innovative and forward thinking across the world, but we need your help to get it right in Scotland.  If you are interested in joining us then call us on 0131 220 5567, or you could take part in one of our learners voices series.

What is the Learners’ Voices Series?

The Learners’ Voices Series is a national learners’ forum initiative that has involved thousands of learners across Scotland in creating an action agenda to revitalise non-formal lifelong, life-wide learning and to create a dialogue to put non-formal learning on the policy agenda- we have been invited to ensure that learners are represented at the world adult learning conference-Confintea VI in 2009.  So we have created a series of seminars to raise the profile of Confintea VI if you want to find out more call us or e-mail info@scotlandslearning.org.uk.

EU learners network at parliament

Learners’ Voices was designed to challenge the citizens of Scotland to think differently about their learning and to consider what direction we should take in the future. Learners and key politicians have been engaged in making tough choices about what’s important for adult learning, creating a prioritised national agenda, and planning activities across Scotland to advance that agenda.
